Air Sensor in a 1997 Sunfire SE

I replaced my air intake with a high flow air intake. I unplugged the air sensor, or I believe that is what it is, from the original air hose. The new part is a metal pipe. Without that sensor plugged up, my check engine light is on. What should I do with it?

Cut a hole into it and put a rubber grommet in it.

rewire it and route it to the front of the car and mount it somewhere on the front
