Anyone know what th laughing gas laws are in Alberta? It have a buddy with an NSX and I want to drag him this summer either at the local annual event, or down in EDmonton. I think the only way to beat him would be Nitrous, but if I can't have it in the car, I'm backing out of the race for sure.

What if you guys put the nitrous in your spare tire compartment, and besides how often do cops look in the trunk, unless your car smells like pot or corpses. Go Alberta Go

Unless it's changed recently... which I'm not sure of... in BC, nitrous is not even mentioned in the Motor Vehicle Act....

But speeding is, so..

in ontario the bottle must not be reachable from inside the car. and it cant be functional. so you have to ur lines disconnected. theres one more law but i dont remember it.

laws are different in all states in the us most of the time the bottle is not supposed to be in the passenger compartment not because it is flammable but because it is a controlled substance..... n20 is a drug and that is generally how the law sees it. but like i say every state is different..... like so if like in the movie black sheep the n20 bottle breaks and you and your buddies get stoned and crash... thats why there is law not so much the go fast part.

I don't think it's because it's a controlled substance but if you do have it period you should have a blowdown tube for saftey. And I highly doubt that, like the movie, your going to get that stoned, sick is more like it,they add sulphur to the mix, maybe your thinking of the medical grade.

z yaaaa wrote:ive had cops come up to me at car shows and comment on my bottle in my trunk, they ask if i use it on the street, i politely say no. which they know is BS lol but come on now, i dont even use it at all YET. they tell me the bottle must be unhooked from the line to drive on the street, well thats the law here in iowa anyways. thats all they told me, im sure there's something about having a bottle with nitrous INSIDE it on the street as well.

I live in Dyersville (other side of iowa) and i was talking to a local cop and he said its completely illegal to have lines or anything, i said bull@!#$ and he then told me that you cant have it hooked up but if you do and your caught speeding (even 5 over) that most cops will give you a ticket for use of nitrous or whatever the ticket is called along with the speeding ticket, even if the bottle is full and lines are empty

I'm almost positive in NY, the bottle either needs to be empty OR not hooked up..........or unseen

ILCS has no mention of nitrous oxide (in reference to vehicles). If there was one, it would be under 625 ILCS 5/12 which deals with vehicle equipment.

720 ILCS 5/24.5 makes it illegal to possess for the purposes of inhalation, this does not apply to nitrous for automotive purposes as it has sulfur dioxide added to prevent abuse.

This means you can have a big blue bottle hooked up and full, with a heater right between your legs and it is not illegal (stupid, but not illegal). It is still better to mount it in your trunk so it won't leak in your face or become a heavy blunt object flying around the passenger area during an accident.

my best advice on anything like this is to ask a lawyer and not a police officer. If you ask 3 cops you'll more than likely get 3 answers. basically you can pay a lawyer and know your safe, or pay the cops cause you thought you were safe. also if they require a blowdown tube at the track for safety it's probably a good idea to have it in a street car. lets face it helps a lot closer at the track then on the highway.
