im kinda interested in how this is gonna work, once u get it done could someone write a how to on this. I like the idea, and think it would be pretty cool

I have been wanting to do this too. What if you got a wiring schematic of a newer GM that had the DRL's as parking lights - like a Camaro and used that wiring schematic as a map to redo the wiring on the Cavalier DRL system?

ok so do this, it should work. if you can find where the parking lights mate together into one inside the engine bay, perfect, if not, you might have to use a relay per light.

cut the parking light wire (brown) near the bulb (not inside the cabin). connect 87a to the part going to the cabin, 30 going to the bulb. 87 will be 12v constant, and so will 85. 86 will be the light green/black wire coming from the bcm, which you'll have to extend. this should give you drls in the front at all times, except when you turn on the headlights you will have the parking lights controlling the bulb (which will be the same filament, so it wont matter). you'll also have your full blinkers front and rear, rear brake lights, and stuff. that SHOULD work

I'm doing a similar thing... with my driving lights tho...

I disabled the DRL's... and then wired up a relay to the driving lights (separate from the GM wiring completely). then there's a wire to the pink wire (+12V in key ON position) that switches the relay.

didnt work. i just did it, and the drl's still turn on in their stock location. if i disconnect the relay, with te wire cut, the bumper lights dont come on at all, but when i connect it, they turn on the way they're supposed to, only when i put the parking lights on. hmmm.. i tried it with only one of the parking lights before i tried doing the other one to see if it would work before i started ripping @!#$ off.

if i cant get it to work, i might try what lenko said, but i'd rather it work with the drl. if i do it his way, then they'll be on even if i put the car in park. which i dont want..

you didn't cut the right wire then from the bcm. try again

is it coming out of the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd plug? i cut the green one with a black line going through it from what looks like the second plug, not sure though. when i cut the right one, the drl's wont come on at all? is it the same one you cut when you disable them? cause i thought that one was dark blue or something.

it should be in pin A4 (maybe in the third connector)

when you cut it, the drls wont come on at all, but the light bulb will light up on the dash that your drls are on, or the bcm might go crazy for about 10 seconds. and no its not the same wire as the other disable.....

i've tried another couple of wires too and the drl's come on anyways. i even pulled the plug out, turned the car on, and drl's come on. third on the top or third on the bottem? i pulled the one on the bottem and pin A4 was a teal wires where the green/black wire was pin A6. i think i misunderstood and when you said third you meant the one on the top..

alright, i was working with the wrong connector. when i reconnected it, i heard my power locks lock up. anyways, i found the right one, and right there in PIn 4 was the green nad black wire, but it, wired everything like you said, and all i got was disabled drl's. when i turned the car on, the DRL light blinked a few times then turned off, head lights off, parking lights off too.. hmm.

i put 30 to the brown wire(bulb side) 87a to the brown wire(going back to the cabin), 85 and 87 to the battery pos post, and 86 to the green/black wire. did i make any mistakes somewhere?

did you make sure that you connected the side coming from the BCM green/black wire to the relay, or did you connect the side that goes out to the car. it MUST be the side from the bcm.

after that, it should work

hmmm.... maybe i'm doing something wrong then. if thats the ground signal from the DRL's, shouldnt i be grounding something somewhere?

which prong gets grounded then? i have 30 to the brown wire(bulb side) 87a to the brown wire(going back to the cabin), 85 and 87 to the battery pos post, and 86 to the green/black wire, i dont see which wire should be grounded..

Re: moving DRLS

the ground comes from the bcm, opposite the side coming from the positive post (85 with 86). so you have them wired right, i just dont know why they dont work. oh well, just put it all back together i guess

hmmm, its a mystery. i'll try it the way you said the first time to see if that gives me any results.

Re: moving DRLS
Saturday, February 19, 2005 6:33 PM
or maybe i have a @!#$ty relay. if anyone else is intrested in this, give it a try and post your results to see if the mistake was on my part(probably was..)

You guys do know how much a new bcm costs while you are experimenting with relays and such I hope.
Re: moving DRLS

i doubt tapping a wire is gonna destroy my bcm..
