PS2/Video Problem
Sunday, February 20, 2005 11:47 AM
K I went to put in my PS2 today. And it works ok i gues....except im getting a static/buzzing noise with the sound and static lines across the screen ?

Its probly because the inverter is plugged into the cig lighter, right ?

What Should I wire it into ??? And im really no genius at wiring stuff in. So where and how do i hard wire it in ?

well, an easy way to wire it, is to run a single lead to the battery for power, hooked to the + line from the inverter (if you cut the plug off, or buy a cig recepticle). then run a line to a good ground from the other. you'll want to make sure to wire a switch, or run it to a switched power lead.

Do you think the using the cig adapter is what is causing the static ?

It's been known to do that in a few cars that I've heard of. I dunno why. I haven't yet tried mine (maybe I'll do that when I get home, and see what happens). I've been torn between taking the PS2 out of the house for the car. I kinda like playing indoors, where it's warm lol. That, and I'll get the new slim model to mold in the car somewhere.

OK, so tonight i spent a lil while running a power cable from the battery to the inverter, using all 12 ga. (or maybe it was 14) wiring.

Still no help....still staticy (sp)

Someone at my work suggested goin to Radio Shack and getting a static filter...but they (RS) had no idea what i was talkin about.

Any ideas anyone ??????

You got a useless Shacky person lol. You'll have that once in a while. Unfortunately, with RS carrying so many different products, some newer people may not know the common terminology for it. What you need is catalog number 270-051 (10 Amp Noise Filter). That should get them moving a little quicker.

Heh. Well today I bought new AV cables today to see if that was the problem.

Thankx CharlzO, .....what do these things look like and where do you put them ?? and how many ? 2 for audio and the 1 for video ??

Today i was messin around with the wires an noticed that when i even put the rca near the hole it makes a buzzing noise through all the speakers. Ergggh, so annoying.

I went to the store i bought the thing and they didnt have an answer either. They said maybe too much signal, or a ground loop (which is whaaat?)

thx

ahhh...ok, i had no idea what it looked like.

So do i just wire this in between the inverter and battery ? i dont get how that would reduce the problem.....just the fact that it makes weird noises when i take the RCA's in and out

Well, the RCAs are probably making noise, just because they usually do when they touch something lol. The noise SHOULD go away when they are completely plugged in. But, the signal filter would be wired in between the battery and the inverter. What it does, is makes sure that the power from the battery is nice and clean power. Basically, power and ground hookups, and that's it. The ground loop isolator is a different device (looks very similar to what you got, only with RCAs in and out instead of power wires. If the interference filter doesn't make a difference, it'd be worth trying. If it doesn't work, just take it back lol.

i just figure its from all those wires an antenna wires bein so close together down there

(radio, TV antenna) so im not sure if it has anything to do with power from the battery/car. I just really dont get why im gettin static in the sound and pic.

And just dont understan why it seems no one else has had this much trouble.

Try to isolate the RCA wires from the power/ground wires. Crossing the RCAs with the power wires can cause interference/static.
