i have a 4 channel amp and i am picking up that annoying alternator noise/hum. i have asked 3 different audio shops and gotten 3 different answers

1. ground the head unit to where the amps are grounded.
2. get a noise suppressor, that wires throught the radio power wire.
3 get rca noise blockers. i have looked for these and havent found any anywhere.

now i am completely lost if anyone knows how to eliminate the hum plese help me. i have the rca cables running on the oppisite side of the car away from the power wire, just to slarify that its not the power wire. im in dire need someone please help, i have searched too.

The RCA blockers are more commonly called Ground Loop Isolators. They just hook inline with the RCAs. I've used it before, and it worked fine. Noise suppressor shouldn't be needed, unless your head unit is reallllly cheap and doesn't already have some form of it built in. Have you tried a different ground point for the amp? But yeah, I have also heard people run their ground wire from the head unit back to where the other is, to share a common ground point.

Brakes? I don't need no stinking brakes....I have air bags

If your rca's are ran down the same side of your car as your power wire run them down oppsite sides try not to hide extra rca's near power or ground wires.. also try turning the amp down if it is ALL the way up you just end up amplifing the noise. Good luck

generally the problem isnt with the rca's 90% of the time noise is do to a poor ground issue, make sure your groun to your amp is solid and not loose, and make sure it is touching bare metal (not painted metal) u may try a couple diffrent spots. u may also look at regrounding the headunit. try a new spot or try where the amp is. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. shop #1 gave you an actual attemp at finding the problem. shop 2 and 3 just gave you in my opinon cheap ways to avoid finding the real problem.

we must not know much or just don't belive in signal to noise ratio. yes the ground is important to. but in that aspect your battery is only chassie grounded with about 12 awg. just enough for car if you run only 8awg in your car your now giving your amp more power than your whole car. I would also reground the battery.

Getting a radio with higher volt preouts would help increase the distance between signal and noise..

I have always had luck with just providing a ground wire connecting the headunit ground to the amp ground. What I usually use is a twin wire (speaker wire) that runs from the HU back to the amp. One is used as the remote turn-on and the other is used to connect the ground points together. That has fixed any alt noise I have had in any of my cars.

i wasnt referring that you guys didnt know much hightech i was reffering to the 3 shops he went to. and i agree with much of what you say but i wouldnt bother buying a new radio, chances are the noise will still be there, just in a less amount, u can get a noise free system on as little as 1 volut output. i prefer to get rid of the alternator whine versus trying to mask it or hide it.
