Factory Speakers Blown Already????
Monday, February 21, 2005 12:51 PM
Ok so i have 4300 miles on my 04 sunfire, I don have the monsoon soundsystem.
Today I was listening to Atmospheres new cd and I coudl hear the distinctive pop of a blown speaker. which im pretty ticked about, but then i fade it to back and then left to right, and my left speaker isnt making a sound. So my rights going and my lefts gone.

Now I'm used to 12" subs, so I have the bass turned down to -1 because its so crappy, and I've never listen to it loud enough to cause distortion.

My question is, how much crap am I going to get trying to get the dealer to replace it?
They cannot prove I blew the speaker even though I'm 99% sure I didn't and I am the only one to drive my car.

I would just tell them that the speaker just quit on the one side, and the other now is making a funny noise. If you act a little clueless about what it is, they're more than likely not to ask any questions. If you walked in and said "yo, I was jammin all out to this new sh*t, and now my speakers are crap", they are probably gonna be less receptive (though I imagine they'd replace them anyway).

BUT, if you're gonna put in a system sometime anyway, this might be a good time to upgrade your speakers with new stuff anyway.

Normally I'd raise a BS flag... because the factory speakers are pretty decent.

They don't blow on their own... so...

Either you had it up WAY too loud, and now are too ashamed to admit it (in which case, bite the bullet and buy some better speakers)....

Or they were defective from the factory... in which case, they would be coverted on warranty no problem.

I'd go to the dealer and say the door chimes aren't working... if they're blown, they don't work, right?

just the drivers side rear produces no sound. And the factory speakers suck for bass, thats why my bass it down. not only is it obnoxious and not clear, it rattles the #%^* outta my spoiler.

Well, if your spoiler is rattling, then you've definitely got it turned up too loud.

Maybe go and get your hearing checked

Or maybe my hearing is just that good? or maybe the spoiler isn't on tight enough, or maybe its a cheap car?

No offense, but you bought the car. Any car in it's price range is going to have it's own little issues and imperfections. 9 out of 10 people can't hear distortion properly. Not saying you can or can't. But try having someone else stand outside the car, about twenty feet away, with the windows down, and then turn the volume up to where it is when you listen to it. They'll be able to tell you if they're hearing something out of the ordinary. But if you're gonna trash a Sunfire just cause you had a (rare) problem with speakers (which will most likely be replaced anyway), then maybe it's time to trade it in and take the depreciation hit.

It was just a shi**y day really. Speaker problems are just icing on the cake. and the easiest thing to gripe about. And my brother has the same car and He cranks his bass and from out side I can hear distortion. meanwhile my bass is at 0. The only other gripe about the build quality I really have is the gap in the dash/glove box seam. Its not that bad, just like I said bad friggin day.

I hear that. Everyone has days that suck. Mine suck more than most lol. But, mine still runs, and moves. So I call it good as long as it continues to do so.

Hey i got a 2001 sunfire that I bought used from the dealership last year. When I bought it one of the 6x9's in back were blown and they replaced it no questions asked! And i never turn up my music enough to hurt them and already the other one is starting to go. They just arent made to keep going I guess lol

i havnt heard of anyone having problems with getting a speaker replaced, ive never heard of the stock audio system being able to make the rear spoiler rattle, if its rattling that would also be a warantee issue, so go get it fixed and u wont have to complain about it anymore,
