those vents are there so that ur trunk doesnt create a vacuum/pressure when u open and close it

yes, they are for cabin pressure. I just put duct tape over mine. they flapped like crazy. really annoying too. Be careful when taping it up, if you don't seal it water can get in and seep down into your spare tire well.

sorry not to jack the post or anything, but I am having the problem of water seeping into my spare tire well! How can this be fixed and is it comming from the vents?

it's probably coming from your trunk lid not being aligned properly. If you have a sunfire they are notorious for not sealing up correctly. I dont know about the cavaliers but i imagine its the same case. What you should do is crawl into your trunk through the backseat during daylight and see if you can see any light coming in around the trunk lid, that will tell you it is not sealing properly. I had to work on mine for quite a few hours to get it to sit properly and my sister's still will not seal properly.

As for the vent , i also just sealed mine up with some dynamat, brownbread or whatever you wanna use. It is also to help moisture escape from the trunk, but as long as your trunk lid is sealed properly it should be ok to cover this up.

right hand side, in rear corner under the carpet. you can see it if you look up under the quarter panel behind the tire also.
