Center consol/hand brake question
Friday, May 28, 2010 9:45 PM
I am going to replace my 95 cavy center consol with a 2000 center consol. I like the 2 cup holder up front. Also noticed, I really like the leather boot on the hand brake.

How do I get that leather boot in my 95? Do i need to take out the entire hand brake assembly and replace my existing one?

The boot is attached to the inside of the console. The end around the e brake handle just slips over the handle and slides off, then the bottom of the boot has metal ring sewn inside that clips into the console, and can be swapped between consoles.

Thanks

Just swap consoles...the 2k one is far better.

you also need the metal bracket from the 2000 and up consoles.

ok cool. thanks

and just too clarify, for adding a leather boot. You remove the boot from under the base and slide it over top. and to put it on the 95 e brake you put it on inside-out, then twist-tie or staple it to the handle, and then pul then rest back down over the twist-tie/staple and its all good?

do I need the metal bracket? I was jsut at the junk yard and got my consol but didnt grab the metal plate underneath. If I take that plate I'll need to take the shifter and handbreak assembly with it. im confused...

....I did mine....had to remove the stock front bracket...made a cheapo from 3/4 x 1/8 or 1/4 inch aluminum stick from lowes and worked perfect...your never gonna see it....all you have to do is loosen the back nuts and take off the 2 on the front, pull up on the assembly and wiggle the stock one out...easy as hell to do...car was a '96 sunfire..console was a '00 plus......if you use the power supply on the newer console then you will have to cut and splice your stock one...easy as hell too and easy to put back stock
